A note from Professor Lee

Why I'm recruiting.

Professor Lee, owner of Mini Professors Weymouth, pointing up at the heading

I started Mini Professors Weymouth because I genuinely believe science should never feel scary or boring for children. I wanted to create something hands on, exciting and full of those little wow moments where children realise they can ask questions and understand the world around them.

Our practitioners take Mini Professors into nurseries and schools during the day, so children get real, hands-on science as part of their normal week. In a nursery that might be wide-eyed three year olds making their first potion. In a school it might be a whole class discovering that science is something they can actually do.

I'm recruiting now because more nurseries and schools are asking for our sessions, and I want every child to get the same high quality experience. For nursery sessions, a warm way with young children matters most. For primary school sessions you will need teaching or classroom experience, because you will be leading a club at the end of a busy school day.

With thanks, Professor Lee Owner, Mini Professors Weymouth

What our Club Leaders say

What is it really like to work with Mini Professors? Here is the honest version from two of our current Club Leaders.

“I joined Mini Professors because it gives me the flexibility to do the parts of teaching I love without all the planning, preparation, assessment and admin that comes with working in a school.

I love seeing that spark when a child gets excited about something they have just discovered. With Mini Professors, I can inspire children and get them excited about science, which is one of the best parts of teaching.”

NicciMini Professors Club Leader

“I wanted to do something fun, challenging and interesting that involved working with children. After helping Lee at a holiday club as a favour, I enjoyed the day so much that I knew working for Mini Professors would be a great addition to the hours I was already working.

Lee and I discussed how we could make it fit, and after-school clubs were the perfect answer.”

LisaMini Professors Club Leader

“I was a little worried about how I would retain all the information needed to run the sessions, but it is much easier and quicker to learn than I expected. I learn so much myself too.

Lee makes getting organised really easy. Everything is ready when I collect my kit, so I simply unpack and set up, which takes roughly 20 minutes.”
