A note from Lee

I started Mini Professors Weymouth because I genuinely believe science should never feel scary or boring for children. I wanted to create something hands on, exciting and full of those little wow moments where children realise they can ask questions and understand the world around them.
What I love about our after school clubs is that they are completely different to another hour sat at a desk. The children have already done a full day at school, so our clubs need to feel fun, lively and practical, but still full of real learning. One week they might be building, the next mixing, testing, investigating or making a glorious mess.
I'm recruiting now because Mini Professors Weymouth is growing, and I want to keep giving children the same high quality, hands on experience. The people who thrive in this role are often ex teachers, HLTAs, TAs or confident educators who love the spark of being in front of children and bringing learning to life. You don't need to be a scientist, but you do need to be curious, reliable and happy to get stuck in.
With thanks, Lee Owner, Mini Professors Weymouth
A typical club afternoon
Lay out the ready-prepared kit and meet your school contact.
Greet the children and build excitement for today’s discovery.
Lead a lively, hands-on session with wow moments built in.
Leave the classroom tidy and take no marking home with you.

Yes, really.
No two clubs are the same. One afternoon you might be building a circuit, the next you are modelling the human digestive system. That is the kind of fun you get to lead, and you never have to invent it yourself.
Why you’ll love it
2 to 3 afternoons a week, with 2 paid hours for every club.
A rewarding role that still leaves your evenings free.
No piles of paperwork or late-night lesson planning.
Mileage is covered when you travel more than five miles.
Proven lesson plans, equipment and friendly support from Professor Lee.
Help children discover that science is exciting and for everyone.
Is this you?
If you’re an ex-teacher, teaching assistant, youth worker or confident educator, you already have so much of what makes a wonderful Club Leader.
Your training
You will not be expected to walk into a school and simply work it all out. You will receive a fully funded training package to help you feel confident, prepared and safe in your role, including:
You will be building valuable skills and experience while inspiring children to become excited about science.
It takes about five minutes, and you can review everything before you send it.
The practical bits
What is it really like to work with Mini Professors? Here is the honest version from two of our current Club Leaders.
“I joined Mini Professors because it gives me the flexibility to do the parts of teaching I love without all the planning, preparation, assessment and admin that comes with working in a school.
I love seeing that spark when a child gets excited about something they have just discovered. With Mini Professors, I can inspire children and get them excited about science, which is one of the best parts of teaching.”
“I wanted to do something fun, challenging and interesting that involved working with children. After helping Lee at a holiday club as a favour, I enjoyed the day so much that I knew working for Mini Professors would be a great addition to the hours I was already working.
Lee and I discussed how we could make it fit, and after-school clubs were the perfect answer.”
“I was a little worried about how I would retain all the information needed to run the sessions, but it is much easier and quicker to learn than I expected. I learn so much myself too.
Lee makes getting organised really easy. Everything is ready when I collect my kit, so I simply unpack and set up, which takes roughly 20 minutes.”
